Because 100-200 million gallons of oil & 2 million of dispersants still foul the Gulf

Because wetlands, shores, wild and marine life are still threatened

Because peoples' health still isn't protected

Because the truth is still not out

Because oil companies and government still want to "drill, baby, drill"

Because we're not stopping until the well is sealed and the Gulf is healed

On This Day - Stand up publicly.
Organize a demonstration or speak out
Spread the word so others take action
Hold signs and banners on street corners - Suggested slogans: The Gulf Oil Crisis Isn't Over! / Stop Gulf Oil Drilling! / Gulf Oil Disaster - No Cover up! No Lies! / Stop Dispersants in the Gulf NOW! / Full Access to Independent Scientists in the Gulf! / No Censorship in the Gulf!
Organize an event with a scientist, person directly affected, etc.
Hang banners
Have children write letters to Gulf fisher-people
Dramatize the catastrophe with street theater
Host a prayer service or vigil for the Gulf
Write a letter to your local newspaper/take out an ad
Call talk radio shows to express your outrage
Host a bike ride carrying signs through town
Leaflet your work/neighborhood with our mission statement
Host a fundraiser for The Emergency Committee to Stop the Gulf Oil Disaster
Group viewing of video from the Emergency Summit
Call the press to get coverage. (Imagine if on this day all over the world the people's response is headline news.)
One person with a sign is an action!
Use your imagination and creativity to show the world this is not tolerable! surprise us!

We Aim to STOP this disaster!

WE DEMAND THAT BP AND THE U.S. GOVERNMENT AT ALL LEVELS:

1) Stop the oil gusher. Bring all necessary resources to bear, including from the entire oil industry, without regardless of cost. Employ all necessary resources to clean up all the oil and gas, prevent it from hitting shore, treat injured wildlife, protect wildlife and public health, and repair all devastation.

2) Immediately end use of dispersants. Fund all necessary scientific and medical research on human and environmental impact of dispersants. Immediately begin remediation of damage caused by dispersants.

3) Full mobilization, access, and funding of scientists, engineers, and environmentalists, independent of BP and the government, to investigate the oil blowout and its impacts on ecosystems and human health, and to monitor and supervise all aspects of the response to this disaster. Full support – not suppression or punishment – for peoples’ efforts to protect the environment, wildlife, and public health.

4) Complete transparency. Disclosure of all information and documentation, including scientific, medical and technical data, and decision-making concerning every aspect of this disaster. No censorship, gag orders, threats, or punishment, including on anyone employed, hired, contracted, or who volunteers.

5) Immediately survey direct and indirect health impacts of oil blowout and provide all necessary medical services to those affected free of charge. Immediately protect the health of and provide all necessary equipment for all impacted or involved in clean up.

6) Stop oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Full compensation, retraining, and new employment, including major public works programs, for all affected, and for all losing livelihood and income from the disaster.

7) Those responsible for this crime against the environment and the people must be prosecuted.
